A refused parcel costs you twice.
Cash on delivery is what the customer wants, and it is also the order type most likely to be refused at the door. Nobody answers, the courier turns around, and you pay to ship it out and pay again to get it back. The order was never really an order.
Shipping, both directions
You paid to send it and you pay to have it returned, on an order that earned you nothing. On thin margins two or three of these can wipe out the profit on a good day.
Stock stuck in transit
The item is unavailable to anyone else while it travels out and back, which on a small catalogue means real sales you could not make.
Nothing to chase
No money changed hands, so there is nothing to refund, nothing to dispute and no reason for the customer to answer the phone.
What the plugin does

The settings screen shows how much of your cash on delivery money is already banked, and how much is still riding on the next delivery.
